The Chapel
Built on a volcanic outcrop, the Castle dominates the upper Allier Valley. Its establishment dates back to the 11th or 12th century. In some writings, there is mention of a castrum in the 11th century. What is certain, is the existence of a parish, also extended the lordship, and to a Priory in the 12th century.
Saint-Ilpize Castle was the residence for more than 150 years of the Auvergne dolphins. There are, today, that of imposing ruins.
