12th century
Rochebaron Castle dominates the gorges of the Loire. Probably built by the Lords of Rochebaron at the 11th century (between 1150 and 1220), the castle was modified in the 14th and 15th centuries, before being abandoned under Louis XIV. The imposing ruins consist of a quadrangular enclosure, flanked by round towers and defended by a cylindrical tower on the side of the attack, and a triangular Tower connected to the round tower by a curtain to double defence.
The construction of the chapel was undertaken to 1434.
In 1419, the Duchess of Bourbon and the Bailli du Forez did seize the Castle by Jean Fournier (Provost of Montbrison). In 1422, the castle was besieged by the troops of the Lyonnais,
