Relive the history of the beast of Gevaudan that began June 30, 1764, date of the first victim in the parish of Saint-etienne de Lugdares in Vivarais. History continued in the region of Langogne, then to Saint Chely D'apcher, to finally finish in Saugues where Jean Chastel kills the beast June 19, 1767 at the Sogne d'Auvers. Find the ambience of an era, the fear of the people, the landscapes, the characters and the beast throughout a course in the middle of 22 scenes that tell this fantastic story.
You enter into the history of this famous beast that really existed. July 1764-June 1767, it killed and devoured more than 100 people, only women and children, in a vast area ranging from Langogne to Aumont, Ruynes Pinols and Saugues.
This museum, which stretches over 400 m² and 4 floors invites you to enter the story: in the heart of the 18th century, thanks to the characters, historical scenes, costumes.
You will discover the Bishop of Mende, the dragoons of the King and their depredations, the nobles, the Court of Louis XV and his infinite distance to the people and the provinces, the mysterious Chastel and a whole era inhabited by witches and werewolves.
