Chapel of Rochegude
Locality of Rochegude - altitude 967 m.
The castle with keep is attested in 1255, and was owned by the family of the Montlaur, and then in the 15th century by the Chalencon finally to the family of the Matussieres. Currently owned by the municipality of Saint-Privat d'Allier.
Castle of the 12th century chapel dedicated to saint Jacques classified MH.
It is a former stronghold on the border of Velay and Gévaudan. In turn owned by the most powerful families of the surroundings: Mercœur, Montlaur, Rochebaron.
The Chapel is dedicated to saint James, and the pilgrims never fail to perform their devotions.

Rochegude Tower is built at the top of a rock which rises like a needle above the gorges of the Allier. Understandably easily Rochegude could pull its name from rupes acuta or roca aguda (rock acute) or CSUA my (sharp mountain).
The tour played the role of Sentinel advanced du Velay, to observe the enemy coming from the Gévaudan.
